Product Name: Radiator Overflow Tank
Product Description: This overflow tank (see arrow) is used on the cooling system to allow coolant to flow into this tank as the engine heats up. As the engine heats up, the coolant expands. As the engine cools down, the coolant contracts. The purpose of the radiator overflow tank is to keep air from getting into the cooling systems when the coolant begins to cool down and the coolant begins to contract. Any air in the system will produce rust and possibly damage the seals and bearings in the water pump. During operation, as the engine heats up and pressure increases to above the radiator cap pressure setting, excess coolant passes through tubes and into the bottom of the overflow tank. The cap on this tank is not sealed and therefore, pressure inside this tank stays at atmospheric pressure. For more information the overflow
tank click on Rust in the Cooling System.
