Title:  General Shop Rules

Description:  When working on a street rod in the shop, the following general rules should always be observed and practiced.

1.   Make sure all hand tools are in good condition.  Using a
damaged hand tool or the incorrect tool for the job may result
      in injury.

2.   When lifting a street rod with an air or hydraulic
jack, always make sure the jack is centered on the vehicle.
When the street rod is raised, always use safety jack stands
as shown in the photo to the left. Also, never go
under a street rod without safety jack stands in place.  It’s a
good idea to have a secondary support under the
street rod just in case the street rod shifts on the jack stands
                                                                                slightly.

                                                                          3.   Never wear jewelry such as rings, bracelets, necklaces or
watches with working on a street rod.  In addition, if
your hair is long, always tie it back.  These items can easily
catch on moving parts or cause an electrical short and
                                                                                result in injury.

4.   When lifting engines in and out of street rods, always use
approved lifting cables or chains as shown in the photo
      to the left.

5.   Never use compressed air to remove dirt from your clothing
or you may blow dirt in your eyes. Also, never spin bearings
with compressed air.  If the bearing ball comes loose, it
      may cause serious injury.

6.   Always be careful where welding sparks are falling.
Sparks can cause a fire if dropped on flammable
      materials.

7.   When using any machines such as hydraulic presses, hoists,
drill presses, or special equipment, make certain that the
                                                                                 equipment is operated correctly.
