Product Description: This product is a chrome plated air conditioning compressor. It is used to compress Freon for the air conditioning system. It has a double V belt drive and an electric clutch. The pressure is produced by a swash plate inside the compressor. The electric clutch is located between the belt and the drive end of the compressor. When the electric clutch is not engaged, the belt turns the pulley but does not turn the compressor. When the electric clutch is engaged, as the pulley is turned, so is the inside swash plate of the compressor. As this turns, the air compressor is compressing the Freon to produce air conditioning.

Product Description: This is called an air conditioning dryer. It is used to filter and remove moisture from the air conditioning system. The dryer is placed in series with the output or pressure side of the compressor, located after the condenser in front of the radiator. This dryer also has a safety switch (see arrow) which is used to protect the AC compressor depending upon the system pressure. The safety switch is located on the top of the dryer as shown in the photo to the left. It is used to disconnect the electric clutch on the compressor in the event of either too high or too low of pressure. It also closes a circuit to start the electric fan. This type of switch is called a trinary switch.
