Title:  Safety Equipment

Description:  To ensure safe working conditions in a workshop, it is important to know some of the proper safety equipment.  The drawing to the left shows some more important equipment to have and be used when working on a street rod.  These include safety goggles, oxyacetylene welding goggles, working gloves, safety shoes, respirator, hearing protection, and arc welding shields and gloves.  Additional safety equipment includes fire extinguishers, airtight containers, gasoline containers and first aid boxes.  Here are some extra tips for using some of these safety items.
  1. Make sure the safety glasses have safety glass and some sort of side protection.
  2. Make sure the safety glasses are comfortable so you will be inclined to use them more often.
  3. On certain procedures it might be necessary to have a full faced shield, for use in grinding and cleaning carbon from valves.
  4. Hearing protectors and respirators should be comfortable and approved by OSHA.

This airtight container should be used to hold rags that have oil, paint, solvents, gasoline, etc. on them, reducing the possibility of spontaneous combustion.
